Portrait of Laurent Dorchin

Born in 1968, Laurent Dorchin is a self-taught French painter renowned in the Art Brut movement.

A decisive meeting

It was at the age of 17 during an opening of the expressionist painter Ramon Grimalt that Laurent Dorchin discovered the world of painting and developed a passion for this medium. Fascinated by the world of outsider art, he began to paint by exploring different media such as wood and canvas. Painting gradually became evident in the life of the artist, who transposed his joie de vivre into his pictorial compositions.

A happy and instinctive practice

Celebrating a rebellious and uninhibited art, the work of Laurent Dorchin invites its viewer on a journey where reality and imagination are intimately linked. He practices a happy and spontaneous art and expresses his joy, his emotions and his impulses through very gentle characters. The artist pays particular attention to the balance between material, color and shapes, and places humor and laughter at the center of his work.

An essential figure of art brut

Laurent Dorchin's work has earned him numerous exhibitions in France but also internationally, notably in Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the United States and China.

“My inspiration reached a crescendo. »

Art for me is a form of escape from the often chaotic world around us. Empty of any political or social message, I am completely absorbed in the moment and free. I paint intuitively, reading the composition as I create it to help illuminate the steps of the often simplistic procedure I enjoy and find great calm in my works despite their sometimes bold and frenetic aesthetic.
